Hi,
I’m Elizabeth.
I was raised in Wynnum and I love it. Like a lot of people, I lived interstate and abroad for a few years, but when it came to where I wanted to live and raise my kids it had to be here in Bonner.
I was an Opera singer for 15 years before having kids and moving back to Brisbane; but I have always loved listening to people’s stories. Maybe it’s the artist in me but I think everyone has an interesting story to tell. I also like to help if I can, so upon return to Australia I worked in Events Management and Community Outreach. Finding out what people needed and then finding a solution to the problem was one of the best parts of my job.
In March 2024, I attended an International Women’s Day Breakfast where the Guest speaker was the former Member of Parliament Theresa Gambaro. While I don’t agree with many of the views the Liberal Party hold I was impressed by her presentation and I felt a strong connection with her reasoning for getting into politics in the first place. As with most things, it got pushed to the back of mind as the events of the work day unfolded. However, over the coming weeks I found myself returning to the thought of “What if I went into politics?” .
I couldn’t shake the idea that there was something that needed to be done;
That there were people (like me) who didn’t feel heard; That there had to be more we could do to start fixing the problems facing our society. And if no one was going to put up their hand - why not me?
I spoke to my husband about it all. It wasn’t going to be easy – if anything it was going to be extremely difficult. But just because something was difficult doesn’t mean its not worth doing. So, I decided to run as an Independent- where my “party” was the people in my community and my purpose was (and still is) is to be here for and help the members of my community. To work collaboratively with the community, other levels of Government and other Members of Parliament to find the best possible solutions for the people I would represent and in turn for all of us.
I know I probably won’t win -this time. But we need positive and lasting change if we are to have a world that we are willing to pass onto our children and grandchildren. I believe we can do that, and I am more than willing to try.
The change starts with us.
